Series: Begin Again #1
Author: Morningstar Ashley
Genre: Romance / MM Romance / contemporary
My Rating: ★ ★
Bennett Cole had lived next door to Mitchell “Mac” Campbell, III for eighteen years of his life, in the small town of White Acre. They’d never gotten along, never seen eye to eye, and never understood one another…not that they’d ever cared to try.
But when Bennett’s so-called buddies ditched him at a party in the woods where he was assaulted and left for dead, Bennett pulled through. The emotional scars rendered him too terrified to go back to school and face his “friends” or his attackers. With little choice, his family packed up and left town.
Ten years later—at the request of his mother—Bennett returned to the place he’d grown up and the home he’d once felt safe, to oversee the repairs before his childhood house was sold. The contractor? None other than Mac, the once annoying boy next door, who still lives there in the home his parents gifted him.
Being in such close proximity—working together every day, to repair the Coles’ family home—Bennett and Mac’s contentious relationship goes from bad to worse as their personalities continue to clash. But their heated exchanges may not be as antagonistic as they seem. And when new information is revealed, can the men begin to see each other in a different light?
The story starts off 10 years ago in the small town of White Acre. Here we see our MC's 18 year old Bennett Cole & Mitchell 'Mac' Campbell III who have lived next door to each other there whole lives, both fancy the pants off each other but rather than admit it decide to hate on each other instead . When Bennett's friends (and I use that term lightly) leave him in the woods after a party he is violently attacked and left for dead which leads him and his family to rent out their family home and move away so he could recover.
Jump to present day and Bennett is returning to White Acre to get his families home ready to be sold for his parents. Little does he know that the contractor his mother has hired to do the work on the property is none other than Mac, who still lives next door. They are still attracted to one another but because of the preconcieved ideas they have about each other they start up their old routine of behaving like jerks.
This was a hard one for me to write a review for so I think I will just make a list of my thoughts on it:
🕮 One of the biggest problems I had with this was the MC's which is never good, but they didn't read like they were in their late 20's. They still acted and behaved like they were teenagers.
🕮 Mac holding Bennett responsible for they way his parents treat him as they want him to be more like Bennett, I mean it goes back to my previous point but by the time your reach your late 20's surely you should have realised by now that it's your parents that are the assholes - so that just didn't make sense to me
🕮 Mac & Bennett were at times really cute together and they had great chemistry.
🕮 Sexy nerdy underwear for the win!
Like I said it was ok, I will be reading book 2 as I kind of liked Danny in this and I believe he is one of the MC's in that one.
